The One and Only Beloved Son - Genesis 22:1-19

This Sunday I'll preach on Genesis 22 and Abraham's "sacrifice" of Isaac.  The more I study this passage, the more I'm convinced that we're meant to feel the incomprehensibility and horror of God's command for Abraham to slay the son of promise.  It is only when we feel the anguish of the passage that we can appreciate its antitype, the Father slaying His beloved one and only Son, at Calvary.  It is the incomprehensibility of the deed which reveals the fathomless love of God for us (Romans 8:32).
